Thread about my experience with @altcloudcc VPS services altcloud.cc :
I decided to share this because I ended up losing valuable data after my VPS was unexpectedly reset. I did not request the reset, and I was never given a clear explanation for why it happened.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the first issue I encountered with the service. Before the reset, I had already experienced multiple problems, including:
  • Incorrect reporting of available disk space.
  • Unexplained RAM spikes.
  • Issues related to the VirtIO Balloon Driver, which at one point showed around 6.1 GB of "Driver Locked" memory usage. I ultimately had to troubleshoot and resolve that issue myself.
After the VPS reset and resulting data loss, I contacted support hoping for assistance or at least an investigation into what had happened. In my experience, the response was inadequate, and I did not receive a satisfactory resolution.
This was my personal experience using their service. If you're considering them for anything important, I strongly recommend maintaining independent backups and carefully evaluating whether the platform meets your reliability requirements.

Hello

Want to clarify everything
1. Incorrect reporting of available disk space: Yes, on windows if u opened the disk manager u would be able to see the other 25gb of disk as it was available but not added to the C: yet, that was fixed

2. Unexplaind RAM spikes, uhm well, its shared VPS, not dedicated, also you had windows which is not like windows doesn't need just a few GB or RAM nowadays

3. Yeah i give you that, the 6.1GB of ram where showing as driver locked, but that was fixed eventually when you told me about it, and you said that only was fixed when u stopped that service, but then was fixed for all the users.

About the "reset" on the VPS (which for all you have done and said so far, i have suspicious that you did that, and also because i haven't got any other problem with any of my clients), i found funny that you didn't even pay for that, you said "I lost over $2000 on files" ok, you had "$2000" worth on files but never even care on having a local backup???  JUST FOR ANY OTHER REASON?, and also found funny how u are saying this in just days before the month of the VPS ends, so far i'm thinking this is a blackmailing attempt because u want me to "refund you" your "$2000 usd", which ofc i can say i make 1 million dollars per month and that doesn't make it real, i found funny how if were saying in the SB how much you needed a VPS so bad, but you didn't even tried to pay at least $10 bucks in any other service from millionaire companies, like Google Cloud, Oracle or many others, but you are asking me to "refund you" those $2000? (i need to clarify this, on tg you said "who gonna refund my 2k worth of data" and that seems like you want me to "refund you" that money, this was said on telegram). When contacting me you starting being rude at me and i would like to think i kept professional when talking to you.

Please delete my banner from your signature and i will delete your VM, consider this deal done.

Thank you.

First of all, accusing me of "blackmail" is ridiculous.

I shared my personal experience after my VPS was unexpectedly reset and my data was lost. Posting a review about a service I used is not blackmail.

Let's go through the facts:

Disk space issue:
65 GB but initially only had 40 GB available. You acknowledged this yourself and had to investigate and reboot the VPS to resolve it. Proof: https://ibb.co/2pwPxTr

RAM / Balloon Driver issue:
This wasn't simply "Windows using RAM." RAMMap showed approximately 6.1 GB of Driver Locked memory on an 8 GB VPS.

I ended up troubleshooting the issue myself and found that disabling the VirtIO Balloon service resolved it. You later acknowledged the problem and literally said:

"Soon will upgrade some stuff to get rid of the ballooing." Proof : https://ibb.co/XrfLPny9

What I find strange:

Only a few hours after discussing those upgrades, my VPS ended up being reset : 7th of june

If I had reset it myself, there should be logs proving it. Instead of making accusations without evidence, why not provide those logs?

Personally, I'm pretty sure something went wrong on your side.

The issues I experienced were not limited to a single event:

• Incorrect disk allocation.
• Unexplained RAM problems.
• The VirtIO Balloon Driver locking most of the available memory.
• Previous service interruptions attributed to scripts being worked on.
• The final unexplained reset that resulted in data loss.

Regarding the "$2000 worth of data":

Yes, I should have had backups. I fully acknowledge that.

However, lack of backups does not explain why a VPS was unexpectedly reset without a clear explanation.

Those are two separate issues.

I never demanded compensation for "$2000." I asked a simple question:

"Who is accountable when customer data disappears due to an unexplained reset?"

That's a fair question.

One more thing:

I discovered that the infrastructure appeared to be linked to PebbleHost. When I contacted them, I was informed that they were not aware of providing services to AltCloud and that they were investigating the matter.

Whether that leads anywhere or not, it raised further concerns regarding transparency and management of the service.
