Wanted to share a classic open-source tool that deserves a spot in everyone's software folder: Shotcut.

With tools like CapCut locking more and more basic features behind paywalls and DaVinci Resolve requiring fairly heavy hardware specs, Shotcut is easily one of the best lightweight, no-BS video editors out there. It's built on FFmpeg and Qt, runs completely offline, and doesn't put watermarks or restrictions on your exports.

Main Highlights:
  • Powered by FFmpeg: Drop almost any video, audio, or image format straight onto the timeline without waiting for imports or file conversions.
  • Lightweight & Proxy Support: Supports hardware encoding (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and 1-click proxy editing so you can edit 4K footage smoothly even on older PCs or laptops.
  • Full Editing Suite: Multi-track timeline, keyframes, color wheels, LUT support, green screen (Chroma Key), speed ramping, and audio scopes/filters.
  • Portable Builds Available: Alongside normal installers, they release portable zip archives on GitHub so you can run it straight from a folder or flash drive without installing anything.
  • 100% Free (GPLv3): No subscriptions, no forced logins, and completely open-source.

Supported OS: Windows, Linux, and macOS.
