Guide: Encryption Is Not OPSEC
Encryption is one of the most powerful privacy tools available. It can protect files, messages, devices, and communications from people who do not have the keys to access them.
But encryption is not OPSEC.
This distinction matters because it is easy to build a technically secure setup while accidentally giving away the information you were trying to protect. You can encrypt a hard drive, use strong passwords, and route your traffic through privacy tools, then identify yourself through an account, a file, a photograph, or a simple mistake.
Encryption protects information. OPSEC is about protecting the context around that information.
