Anthropic just dropped a massive update today (June 9, 2026) announcing Claude Fable 5 (public release) and Claude Mythos 5 (restricted cyberdefense release).
According to their announcement, this is a new "Mythos-class" model that represents their most capable AI to date, showing massive leaps in long-context tasks, software engineering, and vision.

- Finance & Knowledge Work: Fable 5 achieved the highest score of any model on Hebbia’s Finance Benchmark for senior-level reasoning and reportedly "aced" trading-analysis evaluations for IMC (including root-cause and expected-value analysis).
- Memory / Gaming: Tested on Slay the Spire with persistent file-based memory, Fable 5 utilized its notes so efficiently that its performance improved 3x compared to Claude Opus 4.8, reaching the final act 3x more often.
Releasing a model this powerful comes with massive cybersecurity risks, so Anthropic is handling the rollout in two ways:
- Claude Fable 5 (General Public): Fully safe for general use, but features highly conservative safeguards. Crucial detail: If a query triggers a safeguard, it won't just block you; it will automatically route your request to Claude Opus 4.8 instead. Anthropic admits these safeguards are tuned strictly and will trigger false positives on harmless requests in about 5% of user sessions.
- Claude Mythos 5 (Restricted): The exact same underlying model but with safeguards lifted in specific areas. This is initially exclusive to a small group of cyberdefenders and infrastructure providers via Project Glasswing (in collaboration with the US government).
In a surprising move, Anthropic is offering Fable 5 and Mythos 5 at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. This is less than half the price of the previous Claude Mythos Preview.
